New Credit Card Rules

The Law that’s supposed to give consumers relief from credit card company policies goes into effect later this month. However, in order for you to really take advantage of the new rules, you need to know what they are and keep a close eye on your bill.

1. As of Feb. 22nd, credit card companies can not raise your interest rate on your exisiting balance unless you fall 60 days behind. Don’t let that happen because if it does, they can really raise your rate.

2. The credit card sompany has to tell you exactly how long it will take you to pay off your balance if you only pay the minimum. That should be an eye opening and motivate a lot of people to pay more than the minimum.

3.  They will offer “over the limit” protection, that allows you to charge more than your credit limit. The key here is that you have to “opt in” but experts warn you to be very careful.

College students need all the discounts they can get, Edhance Inc.,  is giving them a new way to get them.

The Boston-based company is offering students across the country a free discount program that works through existing debit and credit cards. Students can register up to five cards online at Edhance.com by entering basic information, including a university email address and the name of the school.

Once they’re registered, they can use those cards in-store and online with registered merchants. They pay full price upfront, Edhance software verifies the consumer is a student, and when the money saved on various discounts reaches $10 or $25, that money is deposited back into their bank accounts

Can a credit company raise your rates and do all the other things they are proposing if you are in a debt management plan? I am currently enrolled in Nova and I have a set payment that I pay. It comes out automatically, so it is never late. Can they change the terms of our agreement/

Have questions about credit cards, 1) Once a credit card account has been placed in collections, how long can the collections company attempt to collect the debt owed ?

2) How many times can a credit card debt be sold to different credit collection companies.

3) How long does it take for a credit card debt to be charged off from the first time it is placed in collections ?

What is a FICA score ? and where would I find what my score is ?

How do you have the major credit reporting bureaus remove derogatory or negative credit information from your credit profile thereby increasing your credit score and credit worthiness ??

If you can email/mail me any info or recommend a company or way to consalodate my credit card debt. I just graduated from college 1 year ago and currently on disability. I have 4-5 credit cards equaling a total of about 15,000 dollars owed. Goal would be to have all my debt on one credit card with a resonabke monthly payment. However, I do not trust the companies advertised on t.v. saying they can do this for patrons. I am sure there is a fee of some sort and I do not want my credit score (high 700′s) to be affected. Any advise or help would be hreat while I am going through this difficult time.

Thank you for your time,
Jennifer Bottalico
