One of our viewers had a question about selling old Vinyl Records. The Consumer Unit at NBC10 did some research and here is what we found.

Question: I have a bunch of old record albums I’m trying to get rid of. I was thinking of selling them cause some of the artists are popular such as Jackson 5, Johnny Mathis, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Lionel Richie, etc. They’re in good-great condition, still in the sleeves and covered and everything. I was wanting to know where can I sell these and get full price value/worth for them? Thanks in advance!

Answer: The price of each vinyl that is sold varies by the demand of the product, the price can vary from $.50 to $3.00. However, there is a price specialist located at each store that will thouroughly look through each vinyl to determine the price. They also mentioned that it is better to have many vinyls to guarentee that you will make more money. The title of the vinyl is how it is determined rather than just the name of the author. The most popular/high priced genre is 70’s and beyond atleast until the 50’s and Funk, Rock, R&B. They will pay a higher amount but the condition of the vinyl is key.

Thank you for this information. Also, The Mad Platter on Gay St in West Chester buys and sell LP’s but are very particular. I also found listings on Craigslist and have called and met with several and not one purchased the LP’s. Most of the LP’s I had were from a radio station, in perfect condition and in some cases rare. So the stores Tracy listed are very good compared to web purchasers.
