Wal-Mart’s warehouse retail chain Sam’s Club is cutting 10,000 jobs, the company said Sunday.
Brian Cornell, Sam’s Club’s chief executive, said in a memo to employees that most of the losses will be part-time positions in the company’s product-sampling department.
Cornell said the move stems from a decision to hire a third-party marketing company, Shopper Events, to run the company’s product demonstration operations.
Shopper Events is expected to hire “roughly the same number of people,” Cornell said, adding that all current Sam’s Club demo associates will have the opportunity to apply for these new positions.
