The state Liquor Control Board is considering two different initiatives to sell wine at local supermarkets and gourmet food stores in Pennsylvania. Wine kiosks, similar to soda machines but more technologically savvy, could be implemented by the end of the year in up to 100 supermarkets.
Here’s how it works: shoppers would have to insert their driver’s license and they’d be photographed for verification, then the buyer’s breath would be analyzed to ensure they were not intoxicated, finally the self-service machine would dispense the bottle of wine to the shopper.
The other proposed idea is establishing 6-12 LCB-operated boutique wine stores- some stand-alone stores and others inside gourmet food markets.
