United Alert (the service provider for NJ Alert) is actually free for all states, homeland security departments, emergency management, police departments, and schools nationwide. It’s also a great social networking tool for government folks.

Anyone (and every state for that matter) can create a group, invite people to join and start sending alerts or use the web forums to communicate and share information.

The service is not only free to use but it’s free to send unlimited messages as well.

Check it out: http://www.UnitedAlert.com
