Just a small tweak in Microsoft Windows could impact energy consumption on a global level, considering the hundreds of millions of PCs that are draining batteries and sucking energy from power outlets around the world. One study estimated that energy efficiency changes in Windows Vista could be the equivalent of taking 380,000 cars off the road. With that said, Microsoft is really ramping up its efforts in making the next version, Windows 7, more environmentally friendly.
