The cost of an average family health insurance policy offered by employers increased 5% this year while wages rose just 3%, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust survey.
The 5% increase brings the price of a family policy up to $13,375, reaffirming the trend of growing health care costs and the need for reform. Both Democrats and Republicans agree the growing costs have become a hardship on families and businesses- the question of how to address the problem is where they disagree.
According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, health care is expected to cost $2.6 trillion this year, which isĀ 17% of the US economy.
