The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will provide free seat inspection stations around the country on Sat., Sept. 25, part of the “Child Passenger Safety Week” awareness campaign.
The agency estimates that 75 percent of child restraints aren’t properly installed, and so encourages parents to take time that week to check children’s car seats. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3-14. This age group accounted for 4 percent of total fatalities in 2008, according to NHTSA statistics.
