A new rule now requires food manufacturers to notify government officials of potentially contaminated products within 24 hours to help federal regulators keep tainted items out of consumers’ hands. The FDA revealed a new electronic database that will enable food makers to notify the government and help the FDA prevent widespread illness. In addition to notifying the public and eliminating lag time, the database will allow officials to analyze and report national trends in food safety to the public.
