Coming this fall, a $300 million federal program to boost energy-efficient home appliance sales will kick into effect. The program, will authorize rebates between $50 and $200 for purchases of high-efficiency household products, to help families transition to more efficient appliances while simultaneously stimulating the economy.
The stimulus can’t come soon enough, as shipments of washers, dryers, refrigerators, and ovens have fallen victim to the economy since 2006. Only appliances covered by the Energy Star Seal, which meet the Energy Department and Environmental Protection Agency’s standards, will qualify for the program.
