It's insurance and basically comes down to you're are paying the premium as a bet that the item will break within the warranty period. My logic is if the warranty company is willing to make that bet then so should you.These extended warranties are big business for the companies. I bought a PDA at the now defunct CompUSA store. When I didn't want the warranty the sales person actually went to the cashier and told her to offer the warranty to me too. I overheard their conversation and naturally I didn't take the warranty.
