1/3 of Adults Have Been Approached by Scammers

In an uncertain economy, we tend to be more vulnerable, and as promising opportunities present themselves- like a seemingly easy and well-paying work at home job, a congratulatory letter for a monetary reward, or a too good to be true government grant, it’s easy to fall victim. Nearly 1/3 of adults have been approached by a scammer trying to pass off fake checks, and at least 1.3 million people have become victim of a scam with an average loss of $3,000 to $4,000.

Scams involving fake checks usually require the victim to deposit a check into their bank account then wire money back to the scammers. While the check may initially be deposited into the victim’s bank account,  the fake check will eventually be discovered within a couple weeks and the bank will take the funds back out of the account. The victim loses whatever money they sent to the scammers and will be responsible for paying the bank back if their account is overdrawn.

The three most popular scams are lottery and government grant scams, a mystery shopping scam, and overpayment scams. For more information: http://www.dailylocal.com/articles/2009/08/01/business/srv0000005804761.txt

Yes mam I agree for about 3 years ago I was involved with scammers. When I came to my senses my bank had closed my account with them and my email address provider froze my account. Everywhere I looked there were articles about people being the victim of a scam just like today. I did research and ended up writing a self help guide about scams and fraud. The book ‘Scammers Among Us Beware’ can be viewed and purchased on Amazon.com, BN.com, Eloquent Books.com. This book is a compilation of data from agencies in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Interpol for scammers are a global menace and need to be stopped. All of us need info not just online but in a book in front of them at their fingertips. This informs gives info how to, how not to, what to do if, and who to contact if. Check it out for it just may save you a lot of money. Thank you.
